BAMBOO OFFICE GROUP
This furniture series is part of an interior design concept developed in 2024. It is centered around the idea of revitalizing an old stone house located in the Filipino province of Bataan.
The design combines bamboo and steel to address the challenges posed by the local termite population. This approach aims to serve both functional and aesthetical needs. It tries to be not only long-lasting, but actually sustainable while facing the challenges posed by the tropical climate.
Welded steel frames provide a solid base structure, offering durability. Bamboo is then added using nylon string. Although susceptible to decomposition, it can be easily replaced. This selection and combination of materials highlight a material exploration, tackling the issue of decay in a region where termites are prevalent.
The furniture pieces serve as prototypes in an ongoing study of sustainable design practices in regions with challenging environmental conditions. The series is an exploration of how local materials can be effectively integrated into modern design, balancing the needs for durability, cost-effectiveness, and visual appeal. This project also emphasizes the potential of bamboo as a renewable resource when combined with more durable materials.
